Parkland judge reprimanded by the Florida Supreme Court
Seventeenth Circuit Judge Elizabeth Scherer, who presided over the trial of Parkland school shooter, was publicly reprimanded by the Florida Supreme Court July 24 for giving, at times, the appearance of partiality to the prosecution.
In a unanimous decision, the Supreme Court followed the recommendation from the Judicial Qualifications Commission which found that Scherer violated several rules governing judicial conduct during last year’s trial.
The JQC found Scherer “unduly chastised” the lead public defender and her team, wrongly accused one attorney of threatening her child, and improperly embraced members of the prosecution in the courtroom after the trial’s conclusion.
