Blistering heat forces Broward courts to go business casual
Fictional attorney Atticus Finch braved Alabama’s suffocating summers in seersucker, but a deadly 112-degree heat index is forcing Broward courts to go “business casual.”
“South Florida is currently experiencing a prolonged heat wave with extreme temperatures rendering it dangerous for Broward citizens visiting court facilities,” reads a July 20 administrative order by 17th Circuit Chief Judge Jack Tuter.
“As such, it is necessary to permit visitors, litigants, and attorneys to no longer have to wear suits, suit jackets, and ties in any in-person or on Zoom proceeding,” the order continues.
