The Animal Law Section recently recognized 15th Circuit State Attorney Dave Aronberg with its Outstanding Achievement Award for his leadership on animal issues, particularly when it comes to prosecuting crimes related to animals. Aronberg often takes those cases to trial himself, according to the section, and has obtained favorable results in a number of high profile cases. “He also understands the strong connective link between abuse, cruelty, and neglect of animals and other crimes with vulnerable human victims, such as domestic violence and child and elder abuse,” said Gregg Morton, a member of the section’s executive council. “He was also instrumental in making sure evacuees from hurricanes knew to take pets with them when they evacuate and noted that abandoning pets during a hurricane was a potential crime.” Pictured from the left are past Animal Law Section Chair Matthew Dietz, Assistant State Attorney Judith Arco, Aronberg, and Chief Assistant State Attorney Alan Johnson.
