Craig Waters

With the eyes of the world trained on the Florida Supreme Court as the 2000 presidential election was being litigated in Tallahassee, it fell to Craig Waters to announce that the court had ordered a statewide recount.

Before stepping to the podium to address the throng of reporters and demonstrators assembled on the steps of the court, law enforcement advised Waters to don a bulletproof vest. He refused, saying that was not the image he wanted to project — one of concealment in front of 50 million TV viewers.
