Better information about all phases of guardianships in Florida should be a top priority of a special task force looking at providing recommendations for the 2022 legislative session.

Other issues on the group’s agenda should include guardian and attorney fees, finding alternatives to a full guardianship, and protecting the privacy of guardianship wards, according to members at the task force’s initial July 22 meeting.

The Guardianship Improvement Task Force includes clerks of court, legislators, judges, lawyers, guardians, and others, and members set out the goals they hope to accomplish in the next few months. The task force is sponsored and staffed by the Florida Court Clerks & Comptrollers and was designed to represent a broad spectrum of viewpoints, and includes representatives of the Bar’s Elder Law and Real Property, Probate and Trust Law sections.
