Lawyers who fail to notify clerks of court when their filings in small claims and most county and circuit civil cases contain confidential information will be responsible for that information becoming public in court files as of Thursday, July 1.
The Florida Court Clerks & Comptrollers are reminding lawyers and other filers that under amendments to Rule of General Practice and Judicial Administration 2.420, clerks of court will no longer automatically be reviewing small claims and most civil filings to remove confidential information before the filings go into public court files.
The Supreme Court earlier this year amended the rule to protect the timely availability of court documents.
