As of March 1, it’s the Rules of General Practice and Judicial Administration as the Supreme Court has approved multiple changes to the Rules of Judicial Administration including to judicial disqualification rules and how lawyers enter and leave cases. The January 21 ruling came in the court’s review of the regular-cycle rule amendments proposed by the Rules of Judicial Administration Committee.

One change the court rejected was a condensing and rewriting of Rule 2.420, which governs access to court records. The amendments were intended to simplify what is viewed as a complex rule without making any substantive changes, but the court said the changes were not well explained and some changes appeared substantive in nature.

(The court released a separate opinion the same day making other amendments to Rule 2.420 intended to speed press and public access to filed court documents.)
