A judge who stepped out of his courtroom to quiet people congregating and talking there and who threatened to hold one person in contempt has been reprimanded by the Supreme Court.

Eleventh Circuit Judge David Craig Miller was sanctioned over the January 17, 2020, incident. The Supreme Court on November 5 accepted a stipulation between Miller and the Judicial Qualifications Commission where the judge agreed his conduct violated Canons 1, 2A, and 3B(4) of the Code of Judicial Conduct.

The court in its opinion, however, said while Miller’s conduct was wrong, the disruption outside his courtroom during an ongoing trial should not have occurred.
