William F. Blews, a longtime St. Petersburg trial lawyer and president of The Florida Bar in 1994-1995, died December 13. He was 84.
Blews, who often described the practice of law as both a privilege and a public trust, led the Bar during a period of significant change and growing public scrutiny of the legal profession. Early in his term, he convened the Bar’s first criminal justice summit, bringing together policymakers and justice system leaders to address chronic funding shortfalls affecting the courts, public defenders, state attorneys, and related agencies.
